Falling for TelAviv

A fb-friend of mine called for help 2 weeks ago and started a group chat, where he explained the case of his friend Mohammed, who is only 24 years old: Originally from Palestine, his family went to Syria. Then, during the war, they left to Sweden already some months ago, but Mohammed stayed.

But now he had to escape from the syrian army and landed in Egypt.

Because he didn´t have a visa, Mohammed was kept in Cairo at the airport in a cell and was about to be deportated back to Syria, or even worse, to Gaza.
As a first step, I called him and talked with him some minutes, what made it more easier of course to be personally concerned. Then he sent me a Mail with his documents and me and two ladies from the group started calling again and again Amnesty International, the UNHCR and the swedish embassy in Cairo.
Days of waiting followed, while Mohammad slept in this room without windows and only one meal per day. The sword of Damocles of being deportated hung over him all the time and he was frightened to death. This is not an exaggeration, because going back to Syria would have meant his death or at least years in jail because he refused to fight in the army.

Then finally, the swedish embassy called him and promised him a travel visa. 2 days ago, Mohammed left Egypt and took a flight to Sweden, where he met his family yesterday evening.
Thanks to all the stubborn helpers and what a great example of what WE all can achieve, if we just start with whatever comes our way.
