Before he died, my father would take me to help him pick olives from our grove. Mom packed our lunch – cheese and yogurt, tomatoes, olives and oil that we would eat under the olive trees. At the end of the day, we loaded the 50 kilo bags full of olives on the back of the donkey, and my father would let me ride on top of the bags, walking beside the donkey, making sure I don’t fall off.
